General Care Tips for Embroidered Merch

Be sure to wash all garments in cold water on the delicate cycle or hand washed. Hang dry in the shade.

How to Avoid Sweat Stains on Clothing

Sweat contains high concentrations of salt and other minerals, it can react with UV to cause discoloration of certain dyes. We recommend regularly wiping sweat off your ASITC lids when working in the sun, as well as regular weekly washes to avoid heavy staining.

See “how sweat affects clothing” below under the FAQs for additional info.

Other Embroidered Garment FAQs

  1. What is washed cotton fabric?

Washed cotton is 100% organic and natural cotton fabric that has been pre-washed with enzymes to remove any synthetic components and maintain its delightful coolness. This fabric is known for its softness, comfort, and breathability, making it perfect for staying cool during the warmer months. It is also highly durable, ensuring a longer lifespan compared to fabrics like polyester or nylon.

  1. Are the garments individually dyed?

Some garments are hand-dyed whereas some merch comes direct from a manufacturer. For individually dyed garments, the consumer should expect a unique pattern and color for every item. Embracing the spirit of artistic expression, the dye patterns will vary from piece to piece.

  1. Do 100% cotton garments shrink?

Yes, 100% cotton garments have a tendency to shrink. We recommend sizing up when purchasing these items unless they are pre-shrunk cotton. Pre-shrunk cotton is noted in the product descriptions where applicable.

  1. What about cotton/poly or poly/cotton blends? Do they shrink?

While it is unlikely, cotton/poly or poly/cotton blends may still shrink. We recommend following the care instructions provided to minimize any potential shrinkage.

  1. What is UPF and why is it important?

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Some of our clothing items are specially made to provide sun protection and come with a UPF rating. Similar to SPF ratings for sunscreen, the UPF rating gives you an idea of how effectively the fabric can protect your skin from harmful UV rays. The higher the UPF number, the better the protection. For instance, a shirt with a UPF of 50 allows only 1/50th of the sun's UV radiation to reach your skin.

  1. How does sweat affect clothing?

Sweat contains high concentrations of salt and other minerals, which can interact with the dyes and affect the color of clothing when it soaks into the fabric. This can lead to color changes or staining if not addressed promptly.

  1. How often should I wash my hat to prevent staining?

Ideally, you should wash your hat regularly to avoid heavy staining. Stains on hats are often caused by a buildup of sweat and oil, which can permanently fade the color. Depending on your usage and how sweaty you get, we recommend washing your cap at least once a week.

To safely wash your embroidered cap, follow these steps:
  • Secure the hat in a hat cage to maintain its shape during the wash.

  • Place the hat, secured in the cage, in your dishwasher. Ensure that no dishes are washed along with the hat. The hat should be washed alone.

  • Use dishwasher detergent without lemon or orange scent. Non-scented and uncolored detergent is preferred.

  • Run the dishwasher on the "normal" cycle. After the cycle is complete, remove the hat from the cage and let it dry completely while still secured in the cage. Keeping the hat in the cage during drying helps preserve its shape.
  1. How should I wash other ASITC garments like t-shirts, hoodies, or beanies?

For flat garments such as t-shirts, hoodies, beanies, and similar items from ASITC, we recommend washing them using a delicate cycle in the washing machine with cold water. It is best to hang dry these garments. If you need a quick drying option, you can use a dryer on low heat, but be cautious to avoid high heat settings that may damage the fabric.
