September is National Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month – a time to raise awareness about the importance of mental health, suicide prevention, and support available for those affected by suicide. During this crucial time, A Stitch In Time Company (ASITC) is spotlighting the incredible work of the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County (ASP) and their Survivor’s Benefit Fund. We’re also offering an extra incentive to support, with every proof of donation entered to win a special hoodie (1/2) design.
ASP is a dedicated nonprofit organization in Northern Colorado, focused on preventing suicide through education, training, outreach, and support services. One of our own ambassadors, Kiera Butler, has been passionately working with ASP for over five years, helping to shape impactful programs that serve the Larimer County community.
While ASP has long offered invaluable resources for suicide prevention, Kiera noticed a gap in support for those who’ve lost someone to suicide. She created grief groups for those survivors and, in providing support to these individuals, understood the additional challenges they faced. For many, the financial burdens that accompany suicide loss—such as funeral costs, temporary housing, or basic living expenses—are unexpected and overwhelming in the wake of sudden loss.
To address this, ASP launched the Survivor’s Benefit Fund at the start of 2024. This fund, fueled entirely by donations, provides crucial financial assistance to families who have lost someone to suicide. So far, the fund has supported seven families, offering up to $1,500 per family to help with essential expenses such as rent, groceries, therapy, childcare, funeral costs, and more.
But the need is ongoing. To continue supporting these families, ASP relies on the generosity of the community. Every dollar donated to the Survivor’s Benefit Fund directly impacts the lives of suicide loss survivors, helping them navigate the challenging road ahead.
If you’d like to contribute to the Survivor’s Benefit Fund, please click here to be taken to the donation page and specify "Survivor’s Fund" in the comments section of your donation. For a chance to win a this hoodie from ASITC, send an email with proof of your donation receipt to shop.astitchintime@gmail.com.
For those seeking support or interested in getting involved, you can reach out directly to ASP by emailing grief@suicideprevent.org.
Let’s come together this September to raise awareness, provide support, and prevent suicide in our communities—because every stitch in the fabric of our community matters.
